Social problems abound in our complex world. These problems range from crime and our criminal justice system to war and terrorism. Our world
is overflowing with people and too many of those people are obsessed with violence and warped senses of sexuality. Social inequality is an unfortunate fact of life. We
are at a loss as to how to deal with a growing percentage of the aged or even with the growing population in itself. We are a desperate people
with few possibilities to address that desperation. While no area of our world is exempt from the social problems noted above, our inner
cities epitomize those problems (Macionis, 2001). Our urban areas are characterized by inequality, by crime, and by social deviance in general. Murder, rapes, and all other types of
social deviancy have become more the norm than the exception. Most examples of this social deviance occurs in the urban areas of the nation (Macionis, 2001). Furthermore, as
more than one author has observed, some groups are more violent than others and it is all too often the media which is shaping this violence. Some groups on
the other hand may not actually participate in violent acts but they may idly support such acts or at least tolerate it. This observation can be related to the
class stratification and the problems that we have as a society in working together as a team as opposed to fractionated components all working in different direction.
As would be expected, one of the first considerations confronting us in regard to the ideology which keeps us separated as a people is money.
