in regards to caste and gender, affects this problem. Indian society, as a whole, is highly stratified, with its social hierarchy based on primarily on its caste hierarchy. However, factors
such as religious association, linguistic diversity and regional loyalty also play a role in the extreme stratification that characterizes this society (Chauhan, 2008). The focus of this investigation will be
on how caste and gender issues pertaining to social stratification intersect and, in so doing, affect poverty and human rights. Research for the paper will be conducted by accessing
scholarly, peer-reviewed sources, published within the last five years, which are available via the EBSCO databases, as well as the eLibrary online database. In the EBSCO databases, the writer/tutor will
