matter ones culture or position. But, there are also many individuals who lack a strong sense or a strong comprehension of social skills and they ultimately do not excel at much in their lives. Social skills, in this case primarily the ability to really try to understand others, care for others, and be considerate of others, are incredibly important in all aspects of life. The following paper illustrates, and argues, how important such social skills are at all levels of development and life. Social Skills As mentioned, most people have some social skills. They can communicate with other people, go about their daily tasks and survive by having some level of social skills. However, many people lack the social skills to really affectively communicate with other people, and thereby lack the ability to really improve their own lives and the lives of others. From simply being polite to truly trying to understand another human being in a sincere manner, social skills can make a vast difference in anyones life. Many people may perhaps think that social skills are something that would best benefit individuals in the workforce, and in daily life, primarily adults in varying situations. But, it has been indicated that social skills are crucial to the development of children as well. As such it becomes evident that the importance of good social skills can be seen from an early age. One author notes that, "In early childhood classrooms, approximately 10 to 24 percent of children are classified as popular, while 10 to 22 percent of children are classified as rejected and 12 to 20 percent as neglected" (Kim, 2003). Rejected children are generally very much noticed by peers for they are the obvious point of attraction, and the neglected students are simply not even noticed. ...
