the suggestion was to use a group of street musicians at a subway entrance, well go with that. The student may wish to substitute a different group here; it might
be fun to observe an audience waiting for admission to a play, for instance, since there would be a lot of anticipation as well as speculation on the potential of
the performance. At any rate, lets assume that we are watching a group of three musicians who are playing at the entrance to the subway entrance at E. 86th Street,
a short walk from the Guggenheim Museum. The stop is two blocks to the east of Central Park, and because its a tourist destination, its fairly busy most of the
time. The trio is comprised of a flutist, a guitarist, and a violinist, and they are playing mostly folk tunes, and occasionally something that seems as if it might be
original; its very ethereal and delicate, with the violin and flute carrying the melody while the guitar puts the foundation under it. Its 12.30 p.m. and the stop is busy.
Not only that, but a small crowd of perhaps 20 people has collected and remains long enough to listen to one song completely, sometimes two. The individuals in the crowd
come and go, but the size remains fairly constant. The musicians are a young man on the guitar and two young women on the other instruments. They are dressed
in what is generally called "Bohemian" clothing; the girls have a lot of sequins and glitz on their skirts and wear a lot of jewelry; the violinist is wearing an
