social problems theorist will accept a social problem as an social phenomenon, undesired by society as a whole or by a substantial part of it, and also believed to be
changeable by human intervention." Social problems related to money are numerous. For example, women turn to prostitution due to a lack of funds, something that results in unwanted
pregnancy, abortion or the transmission of AIDS. Many social problems are created by poverty in this way. There seem to be clusters of social problems that are exacerbated, or even
caused by, a lack of cash. There are additional problems attached to prostitution as well. Sometimes, a lack of money can lead to drug dealing, and sometimes, women become
prostitutes because of their addictions. These clusters of problems are tied to the absence of money. Violent crime and burglary result from a poor distribution of wealth in society. Poverty
seems to be tied to risk as well. Pokhariyal (2002) writes: "Urban poverty has caused security problems in the cities of the world" (p.59). It becomes clear that poverty is
a catalyst for a myriad of social problems inclusive of addiction, teen pregnancy, violent crime, and prostitution. Other social problems are caused by the failure of education as an institution.
A significant problem with education is that it favors the middle and upper classes, while still leaving lower class students without adequate resources. How? Despite the fact that great strides
