and propagate racism in many ways. This is especially important for social workers, whose job is to actually lessen racial and economic barriers in the nation. The following paper examines
social workers and their role in the community as it involves racism from a tutorial perspective. Racism In order to better understand how racism exists it is perhaps
important to put oneself in the position of a minority, or to really examine ones community if they are of a minority culture. Being of Hispanic origins, for example, would
likely give anyone daily opportunities to pay close attention to racism. For example, many people assume that Hispanics are generally impoverished, and it may well be that most people assume
Hispanics are more impoverished than African Americans. It may even be that they are seen as such by their own will, that they desire to keep a strong family and
Hispanic community ties and this limits where they go in terms of the community. As an observer one can look to see what their experiences, being Hispanic, may be
when they go to the grocery store and buy groceries. Do white people look to see what they are buying? Or do they perceive they are sneered at in any
particular white community? For many Hispanics this is a serious issue for they are generally expected to be on welfare, where it seems social workers may well only encourage racial
profiling and racism. Many of the communitys attitudes may well be said to start with the social worker and the actual work they do in helping people who are impoverished
