of social science. Obtaining knowledge through facts or reasoning is referred to as cognition. Social learning theory or cognitive learning theory is important to the field of information
science. Social learning theory is the psychological theory that has now become cognitive learning theory. The psychologist important to this
concept is Albert Bandura. The cognitive social theory makes three assumptions (PG). They are: "1) the learning process requires both the cognitive processing and decision making skills of
the learner; 2) learning is a three way interlocking relationship among the environment, personal factor and behavior; and 3) learning results in the acquisition of verbal and visual codes of
behavior that may or may not be later performed" (PG). These are applicable to the components of learning. One of the components of learning is modeling the behavior
of others. Another is the internal process of the learner. Both personal and environmental factors are important. They do not function independently, however (Anonymous, 1999).
According to the social cognitive theory, there are several types of modeling stimuli. They include live, symbolic, and verbal. Pictorial behavior is symbolic. Verbal
is represented by mass media. Television influences children greatly. "Knowledge about many settings is based on a symbolic fictional reality and may be distorted" (Anonymous, 1999). This
same thing can be said for computers. On the other hand, computers also present a wealth of knowledge for cognitive learning. In this way, cognitive or social learning
has contributed to the field of information science. Bandura said that "psychology cannot tell people how they ought to live their lives. It can,
