are the students to learn values? Are they to be indoctrinated into American society in a certain way, or should objective thinking be fostered? This is an issue that is
certainly heated, but it is also one that is often discussed and there are compromises as well. In essence, this is not a black and white issue and so, many
entries are made into this rather deep volume on the subject of education. A variety of issues are discussed in the context of this book that is divided into
four sections. Chapter 7 is written by Carol Wilson and Roscoe Davidson and is entitled "Developing a Shared Vision for Schooling and Teacher Education in Democracy: A Story from Colorado."
This part begins by referencing the eighties and how people were talking about problems in the public schools. This chapter talks about renewal and reform but places attention on one
particular situation. It is not one of the most controversial chapters, but it is one of the most important. Clearly, it is important that schools be given an overhaul. Controversial
because it dares to question the authorities in education, but important because this idea does prompt one to think about change. Change is important because school systems have not kept
pace with society. Change is needed and sometimes reform and renewal are vital elements of the educational system in America. The second chapter is authorized by David Lee Keiser
and is entitled "Learners not Widgets: Teacher Education for Social Justice during Transformational Times." The title suggests that students are not all the same. They are learners, and not simply
