sharing in the benefits of the society. The problem with the concept of social justice is that not all people define it the same way. What is considered to be
socially just is based on the values and morals in each culture. There are many examples of social injustice. Access to health care is one that has been at
the forefront of the media in the United States for years. Poor people do not have the same access to quality health care as the rich. Another source of injustice
is how the average person feels and thinks about certain diseases. Some diseases are more acceptable than others and will generate sympathy while other diseases are more likely to generate
score and even contempt. Both obesity and HIV/AIDS fit into this latter category. There can be little argument in identifying HIV/AIDS as a social justice issue. The absolute refusal
of the federal or state governments to attack this disease thirty years ago was one of the most unjust acts committed. The reason was because it was initially associated with
gay men and then among drug addicts who shared needles. And, now AIDS is an epidemic in some African countries. In spite of the education and the knowledge that
HIV/AIDS cannot be spread through hugging or touching someone with the virus, Americans are still very much afraid of this disease and many will shun anyone who has it. Infected
children are often shunned at school. There are treatments today but many infected persons must rely on charitable organizations to get the medications. In other words, not all HIV/AIDS patients
have the same access to medical care. Obesity is most definitely an epidemic in this country and it just gets worse and worse, even among children. In some cases, this
