level, social justice is the way in which a community is governed: the laws, norms and sanctions that are put into place according to the form of government. Today,
the interest in community may have been stimulated by a sense of crisis that social disintegration is a serious threat to the well-being of the state, precipitated by ethnic and
linguistic conflicts. The advent of the "global village" intensifies perceived and actual inequalities in wealth, power, influence, and accessibility to goods, ideas, and information. Philosophers throughout time
have addressed the idea of social justice and, or, the means to governing. John Lockes treatises on government seem to be preoccupied with defining the relationship between the individual
and the state. By advocating social needs of the individual and family over the interests of the state, he is considered a liberal. The Lockean view incorporates
the idea that the rights of the individual against injustice are the foundation of a system that favors community cohesion. The essence of community is a trust among the
citizens and a willingness to abide by the rules of governance. For Locke, civil society is grounded in a social contract signed by free and equal men. He
was in opposition to the patriarchal theory that conferred divine-right grace on any sitting monarch. Locke emphasized human strengths and the capacity to be guided by reason. Reason
became the guiding principle of government in the hands of the people. Marx was steeped in what he believed was the social injustices brought about by capitalism, such
as economic stratification, unemployment and discrimination. He thought that the working class would become aware of the inequalities within the distribution of wealth and would revolt in an effort
