living. Recessions create havoc because the outcomes are so life-changing. The rate of home foreclosures began increasing in 2007. As millions of people lost their jobs, even more millions
lost their homes in this latest recession. Not all homes were lost due to job loss. Some were foreclosed because of wacky mortgages where interest rates quadrupled making it impossible
for the mortgage-holder to pay the mortgage. This paper focuses on the social impact of foreclosures on families who lost their homes. The impact on communities is also discussed
because they are interdependent. Foreclosures affect everyone. They may affect each family member differently with parents feeling guilt and shame and children feeling total confusion and a lack of security.
The full effects of this recession will not be known for several years. It is just too soon for researchers to design valid investigations to determine the social impacts
of foreclosures on the families. There is history about this topic, though, and some researchers have interviewed people who have lost their homes. Most of the information is gleaned from
past recessions and what is generally known about the impact of different types of traumas, anxiety and stress. Purpose and Importance The purpose is to gain knowledge and insight
