do what one wants in society. Of course, the concept of freedom is difficult to define as well because freedom means different things to different people. Marx believed that people
would be free when they were under control of a communist government. They would be free of the worry of making money for example or from the torture that comes
with losing prestige. Others see Communism and limited choices as a prison. Janice Joplin once sang that freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose. In fact,
some people do feel that losing everything is somewhat freeing and having nothing is tantamount to complete freedom. Buddhist philosophers teach that detachment is desirable and can provide one
with a sense of freedom. Clearly, material goods can trap one into debt bondage. Others see things quite the opposite way. If one has money, they have freedom because then
they can do whatever they want. It frees them from having to have a job, and having to work, and allows them to do what they want. Still, freedom is
something that has perplexed many philosophers. And social freedom has more to do with how one lives in society than how one interprets the ideal of freedom and to what
extent they live in their own psychological prisons. Social freedom means that one will not go to prison for ten years because they have too much marijuana in their pocket.
It means that they can go to a prostitute and not be breaking the law. Government impasses restrictions on individual behavior, but really, the freedom that is limited goes to
