(Halsey 2004: 3). Social forces such as revolution, the introduction of new government types and Enlightenment thinking have converged to spawn new disciplines. The advent of ideas like feminism and
the conflict and convergence between science and religion all played a role in the development of sociology. Today, sociology is a distinct academic discipline. It became most popular during
the nineteenth century and some view it as "an academic response" to the challenges posed by modern life (History of Sociology, 2006). In other words, things emerged in society which
made such an analysis more valuable. Sociologists, in their early attempts at studying society wanted to understand how social groups emerged and were held together as well as
to find solutions for social problems and social disintegration (History of Sociology, 2006). Political revolution is a social force that has contributed to the development of sociology. This is of
course one example. However, Goertzel (1976) remarks that in respect to political life, sociology attempts to explain things based on class. The industrial revolution has seemingly played a role in
the advent of sociology and provides a textbook case of why society has problems. Urbanization has created a setting ripe for political change as it contains class divisions and all
of the things on which sociology tends to focus. It created the impetus for the creation of sociology as there would be a need to study society. For these two
concepts, the French Revolution is a good example of why things need to be studied. Socialism is related to the rise of social science such as sociology. This is because
