Co. ad addresses the question in its headline: "Are the Rich a Menace?" The thrust of the ad answers this question, saying essentially, "No, they are not." The main point
made by the editorial style ad is that for some members of a society to be "rich" benefits virtually all of society, as the ad explains how the possession of
such wealth for some results increased employment for others. 2. What supports--reasoning and evidence--does Tiffany present in their argument? First of all, the Tiffany copywriters assert that when
the rich invest their money, it furnishes the necessary capital to put people to work--"at least thirty thousand dollars of capital must be found for bricks, fixtures, machinery, inventory,
etc. to put each (college graduate) to work." Secondly, the Tiffany copywriters argue that the income that the rich receive from their investments benefits society because their purchases provide support
for the societal infrastructure, such as "policemen, firemen, store clerks, factory workers," etc. 3. Comment on the presentation--the language, the visual and quantitative forms in which they impact their
information. The language of the ad appeals to reason. It presents the argument that inequalities in wealth are defensible and bases this on the premise that this system is
logical because it, ultimately, benefits all citizens. Presented as straight type, with no accompanying art work or graphics -- at least none are shown in the copy of the
