"dont ask dont tell" policy on homosexuality in the US military. Experiment in Deviance In the grocery store, it is accepted that those
finished gathering the items they wish to purchase line up at the checkout counter that they select, to wait their turn to receive attention from the cashier, pay for their
purchases and leave. The experiment here was to break into a long line of people who have been patiently waiting their turn for several minutes.
On a busy Friday afternoon, the experimenter entered a local grocery store at a time when people leaving work at 5:00 could have time to begin waiting
in the long lines that develop that time of day. On the first attempt, the experimenter merely broke into line without conversation. The person now following the experimenter
glared and showed signs of impatience but said nothing. Perhaps a more direct approach would draw more direct response. The experimenter apologized
profusely and disappeared into the aisles to continue shopping for a while so that those present would have time to finish and leave. She then approached a long line,
