their own country. In exchange for a culturally diverse population with an emphasis on integration, America today has become one that repels the cohesion of any race or culture
outside of its own. If America is supposed to be such a culturally diverse melting pot where various races and religions blend together
in harmony, why is it that each culture lives within its own miniaturized country? Little Italy, Chinatown and Little Mexico, which represent just a few of the communities that
exist in virtually every metropolitan area, are clusters of cultural colonies that have formed over the decades to provide strength, protection and a sense of brotherhood for their inhabitants; they
also provide a safe haven for those cultures who find the need to band together as one, rather than try to integrate with white communities. For the most part,
these societies protect themselves from intruders, working hard to preserve the community for only those who are of that particular cultural background because the unwelcome American attitudes have forced them
to adopt such imposed segregation. One of the most glaring examples of diversity issues within society is how mass media perpetuate prejudice and discrimination toward the difference of skin color,
ethnic origin and religion. Descriptions of such racist portrayals range from criminal influence to linguistics to irrelevant information that is meant to provoke contempt and loathing. One need
only tune into the nightly news, open a newspaper or listen to a radio broadcast to understand the extent of racial bias in mass media. On any given day,
