As the study notes, suggest, it should be possible to use research as well as specific actions to reduce both. Programs are in place across the country in communities who
take these issues seriously and are trying to take actions against their prevalence. The reality is that we will not see either of these social disruption issues eliminated in our
lifetimes. I will work towards making these social changes in my own life and in my practice. As the study notes suggest, it is important to understand the difference between
the terms sex and gender because they are used interchangeably but they are different. Sex has to do with biological and physiological characteristics of males and females. By contrast, gender
refers to a social construct that is found in each society where certain roles, traits, behaviors, attributes and activities are assigned to men and women (WHO, 2011). The biological
and physiological traits of males and females do not change but the characteristics associated with gender do change. By now, we should all be familiar with the fact that in
some Middle Eastern countries, women are required to cover their entire bodies with only their eyes visible. This is not true in the U.S. but in the U.S., women typically
earn a good deal less for doing the same job. Lips (2003) reported that the earnings gap has persisted for decades and it does not seem that the disparity will
be closed anytime soon. The disparity exists across educational levels, p art-time and full-time employment, and even in occupations that are considered female-dominated (Lips, 2003). Earnings disparity is sexism. Even
