There is as much contrast between the United States and India as there can be between any two countries. Differences in the technical aspects
of health care in the two countries are about as far apart as well, but in terms of social aspects, there are many parallels. In the end, the best
health care available in either country is fully accessible to those who can pay for it. The United States Accessibility to and the
cost of health care have been overriding issues in recent decades. We have seen the advent and growth of health maintenance organizations (HMOs), the explosive growth of Medicare and
Medicare abuses and the resulting "crackdown" on Medicare policies and procedures. Though there has been great debate over how to manage health care in the US, it has been
relatively recently that the question has been raised that perhaps access to health care is not a right as has been assumed, but rather a privilege that belongs only to
those who can pay for their own care or arrange for a third-party payer to pay the bulk of the cost. Insurance and Medicare
The advent and growth of health insurance was a great advance at the time, but it created the scenario in which those receiving health care were not those paying
for health care. As costs escalated over the next four decades, employers found themselves facing increasingly high premiums, some crippling so. Only large employers are able to offer
employees employer-paid coverage now. Because it is small business that collectively provides the greatest number of jobs in the country, this shift has left many uninsured or grossly underinsured
