it is a seeming silent problem. It is not often discussed. In Hochschilds (1985) The Managed Heart, she describes emotional labor and its alienating effects on flight attendants. What
is discussed exactly are the specific stress related factors of being a flight attendants. Although many people imagine that the occupation is filled with glamour, the reality is anything but,
from the mandatory weigh-ins to the unruly passengers, the flight attendants job is hard work. Another problem cited for this specific occupation is that there are difficulties in respect
to inequality. It seems that the flight attendant is often not treated well by the corporations that hire them and to some extent, the fact that the stress can be
consuming, and the company does not seem to appreciate their efforts leads to ill effects. Alienation results. However, this brand of alienation is specific to the job. There does not
seem to be as much attention to the holistic consequences of alienation. Rather than being a state of being that affects ones entire psyche and ultimately their social life, alienation
is specific to employment. If the airline company respected its employees that would be a problem solved. Yes, while corporate greed is held accountable there is an easy remedy. On
