uses a multi-tiered instructional approach will serve the community of Chemung County, New York and the Twin Tier Region of New York and Pennsylvania as a whole. Arnot Ogden Medical
Centers Tobacco Cessation Center has initiated programs designed to support individuals seeking to quit tobacco use. The Center focuses on the fact that nicotine is an addiction and that
the habit of using tobacco carries a variety of social and individual connotations. Classes are designed to address the social aspects of tobacco use as well as the addictive
characteristic of nicotine (AOMC, 2008). The AOMC program is formatted on a successful method utilized by the University of Pittsburgh, which includes the use of seven, one-hour classes over six
weeks (AOMC, 2008). Patients are encouraged to participate in all seven classes in order to achieve the maximum success, and patients are not even expected to stop smoking until
the third class (AOMC, 2008). The classes include a behavior modification segment, presentations on habit and perceptions, presentations on the health impacts and on personal goal setting. In
addition, the program also has a pharmacological component, to address the physical addiction to nicotine. Learning Theory and Learning Objectives The broad learning objective for the smoking cessation
