are also films which are incredibly different, perhaps even quite opposite. "Sleepless in Seattle" is a Hollywood film and "LAvventura" as more of an artistic and independent Cannes film. The
plots are quite different and, in all honesty, there is little that the two share. However, if we look closely we can see similarities as well as differences in the
style of narrative used. The following paper examines the similarities and differences in the narrative function of the two films. Sleepless and LAvventura "Sleepless in Seattle" has a
very romantic and comedic confusion about the narrative. It is a story that depicts a woman of great realism caught up in a world of unprecedented romantic ideas. The film
is not a serious film, though it is a very simplistic and powerful romance that perhaps speaks to many people. With "LAvventura" we have a very serious film that is
offered up in an almost monotone narrative. In this film we see that a woman has disappeared from a group and while the people search for her, there is no
sense of worry or urgency on the part of her so-called friends and lover. In this sense we see, first off, that the films are quite different in their
narrative style. With Sleepless there is a sense of desperation as lives are changing. In LAvventura there is a real desperate situation, but yet there seems to be no desperation.
In this narrative perspective we see people in Seattle in urgent need, people who are trying not to give up some powerful hope. In LAvventura the people seem to have
lost all hope long ago and there is no urgency, despite the fact that the plot is far more urgent than Seattles. At the same time, however, we can see
