sleep in cars and airplanes. I just cant do it. When I studied abroad in South Africa on a journalism internship, I had a 14-hour flight from Atlanta to Cape
Town with a 3-hour layover. I estimate that I was awake for 42 hours straight. Being unable to sleep was one thing but the lack of sleep messed up my
circadian rhythm for approximately the next five days. In fact, thinking back on it now, much of it is a blur. I realized that going almost two full days without
sleep had detrimental effects on my mood, behavior and eating habits. I remember I was unable to think clearly and express my thoughts in a clear and succinct manner. I
also kept a journal during my time abroad and I tried writing a journal entry during this time of sleep deprivation. While I was writing in the journal, I thought
it made perfect sense, but when I went back to read it the next day, it was missing punctuation marks, words were misspelled, the grammar had a number of errors
and it was overall incomprehensive and incoherent. For the most part, my mood remained relatively stable although I did notice I was little cranky from lack of sleep, but my
cognitive and motor skills slowed down drastically. In addition, despite the lack of sleep and being awake all that time, I did not find myself hungry at all. My appetite
