the so-called friendly skies. That is, two major aircraft manufacturers have tried hard to outdo one another and the two leaders are each from different corners of the world. Boeing
is Americas own, and layoffs from those plants sparked controversy not too long ago as European rival Airbus--actually a consortium of a variety of companies from several nations--has tried to
corner the market. That is not easy to do and is proving to be an insurmountable feat for the relatively new Airbus. Although it has been in existence for a
couple of decades, Boeings record is much longer so the name is a bit more trustworthy. Still, many think Airbus is the wave of the future as it endeavors to
create a huge airplane, something resembling a cruise ship. While Boeing claims that such an idea is good, but not profitable, Airbus is forging ahead. Many analysts see Airbus
as the victor in this war, but others are not so sure, especially after taking a look at the companys bottom line. Because it is a consortium, government funding is
used, and money seems to be manipulated or at least reported differently than if the consortium had not been in existence,so it is hard to tell just how Airbus is
really doing. Some figures to come from the company are rather dismal and others deceiving. But Boeings problems are out in the open and cannot be disputed. In assessing how
each company will do in the future, it pays to take a look at their past.
