working personality, as the title relates. However, while it does appear that the working personality is the most important part of the article, it seems that of major significance is
not just a description of the personality but its relevance. In other words, the authors intent is not solely to relate the paradigm, but to also provide it in a
usable context. Many people examine the idea of personality only in the context of psychology and see it as a topic relating to the individual, but Skolnick (1967) takes
a sociological look at the problem. Why is the police officers personality a particular way? Why are officers so alike? How does the blue wall of silence come about? Such
questions seem to be answered in the context of this thoughtful article. The author for example relays the fact that police officers tend to stick together not because they are
friends outside of the department, but because there is a mentality of teamwork. One may see similar situations in other occupational settings where people work together against an outside force.
Other observations are that the police officer surrounds himself with criminals and often is apprised of, and picks up attitudes and lingo of the popular culture. There are in fact
many reasons to explain the police officers personality. The relevance of the article is that not only is it a classic in law enforcement, but it helps an ordinary individual
to comprehend the work that police officers do and why they tend to behave in a certain way. II. How the Author
