There are many firms that have implemented Six Sigma, these include General Electric, Motorola and BP Chemicals (Hahn et al, 2001, Breyfogle et al, 2001). Ford has also implemented
a Six Sigma initiative (Six Sigma Companies, 2005). Other firms also include the courier and logistics firm DHL, the French insurance company AXA, the office supply firm Staples, Lockheed Martin,
communications company Vodafone, pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline and Xerox. There are also many firms that have implemented total quality management. One of the best known is probably Toyota, but there are
many others. Xerox has an active TQM program, as does BMW, Nissan and Ford (Pheng and Teo, 2004). Many of these firm are manufacturing firms, and there is a bias
