is quite flexible and may apply to any situation. What happens is that managers who incorporate this style will be able to adapt leadership skills and decision-making prowess to any
situation that presents itself ("How," 1996). They are able to incorporate things like time and people involved (1996). When deciding who should make the decision, much has to do with
the timeline involved, whether creativity is needed and also, whether the decision reflects the big picture (1996). Sometimes, upper management needs to make a decision, but at other times, the
decision can be delegated. This is the beauty of situational management. It is extremely flexible. One company called ITI (Innovative Thinking, Inc.) embraces situational leadership and claims to have aligned
with companies such as AT&T, Disney, and IBM, to name a few ("Innovative," 2005). In fact, some firms emerge as being outstanding in terms of leadership and attention
to employees. Disney is one such company and even labels its employees cast members, something that perhaps elevates their concept of importance. What Disney does is to trust the
Cast Members views and ideas (Taylor & Wheatley-Lovoy, 1998). It looks at their judgment so that they can see when they have succumbed to "bad Show," which is
a Disney term (1998). In other words, the employees judge their own behavior, good or bad. Management at Disney does encourage things like rewards as well as employee involvement
(1998). Clearly, the flexible style of situational leadership is apparent. If a supervisor is able to trust the instincts of a subordinate, there will be times when things go awry.
An employee may make a bad decision. If that occurs, then the supervisor or manager will have to help to change things. In essence, each situation is treated differently.
