drive. Because of the results he achieved, some have said he was a transformational leader but that is not an accurate label as we will see when we review what
situational leadership is all about. Hersey and Blanchard offered situational leadership as an effective leadership model. They pointed out that other leadership models tended to emphasize attitude, such as concern
for people versus concern for the task. They believed that all managers must be concerned with both the task and people. Their situational model proposes that the leader must adopt
the style that is most appropriate for the task, the person, and the level of the employees maturity. They refer to this model as being follower-oriented because it considers what
the follower can and cannot do. Using this model, the leader must assess how much supervision the employee needs to complete a specific task. They use the term maturity
for this element. Low to moderate maturity employees have low motivation and require more direction and more personal attention. Moderate to highly mature employees require attention but they can share
in the decision making while highly mature employees need freedom and autonomy (Hersey & Blanchard, 1977). When you analyze their theory, it makes a great deal of sense. As employees
