factors," which is jargon and can almost certainly be applied to any type of company or endeavor. Since we want to consider situational factors with regard to employment, it might
be best to use a definition from a business website. A site that discusses organizational behavior refers to situational factors as those things that are "[A]ffected by the situation in
which the employee works" (McShane 2003). These factors include such things as "time, people, budget, and physical work facilities as well as external factors such as the state of the
economy or demographics of the area" (McShane 2003). With this in mind, we can now consider the first question, "Why is it important to understand the significance of situational factors
when studying employment relations?" When we consider that these factors include the physical work area, time, people, and budget, it becomes apparent why they apply to the workplace. People cannot
concentrate when the office is too warm or too cold; when they are trying to work on a computer without having computer furniture; when the supervisor is unreasonable or the
workload too heavy for the time allotted; or when they do not interact well with their fellow workers. Any of these can cause tension, complaints, dissatisfaction and so on, ultimately
resulting in poor job performance and lost profits. The next question we want to consider is "What key situational factors are most relevant to France?" Since we know only
that this has to do with employment in France, we should determine such things as Frances current economy, demographics of the workforce, laws governing work, and other similar facts. We
