there are times at work when something distracts, and a worker becomes disoriented. This can wreak havoc in an occupation that requisites concentration and perfection. Firefighters, police officers, pilots and
surgeons must all be aware of what they are doing at all times. Situational awareness is imperative for their own safety and the safety of others. Sometimes, pilots become confused
and this is dangerous. There are those who theorize that the Bermuda Triangle mystery is merely a case of a loss of situational awareness by those in control of the
planes. This theory is based on audio feed from the pilots last calls. They did not know where they were and seemed rather confused in general on many fronts.
Simulators have helped pilots with their virtual cockpits and in fact improving a pilots situational awareness has been a long held goal ("Head games," 2003). Great strides have been made
in this area ("Head games," 2003). Situational awareness is important because pilots must be cognizant of his or her surroundings at all time. They must not become disoriented and they
have to remain alert. A recent court case saw pilots who were drinking before a flight and that made people nervous. Why? Anyone in control of an aircraft must be
at their personal best. Pilots are not even allowed to fly with corrective lenses as there are rigorous requirements to fly. One can imagine that situational awareness is therefore an
important factor as it respects a pilots ability to properly man the aircraft. Response times are short in aviation and programming is more flexible than in
other areas (Lewis, 1998). Errors that are caused by an omission (Starter and Woods 1995 as cited in Lewis, 1998) in respect to feedback regarding initiation are more common
