righteously and justly. However, there is far more to his life than this simple and lasting text of a perfect society. He was a man who stood strong for his
own ideals and a man who lost his life because he refused to cave in to the changes that were being forced upon him. The following paper examines his life
and works. Sir Thomas More: His Life and Works "Thomas More was born on 7 February 1478 in London, the son
of a successful lawyer" (BBC). He received his education at St. Anthonys School and then was sent to work as a page in the house of the Archbishop Morton, who
would later become a bishop (Kreis). Apparently Morton "anticipated More would become a marvellous man" (Jokinen). He was sent, by Morton, to Oxford where he studied under such figures as
Linacre and Colet (Kreis). He left Oxford, without any sort of degree, and studied at Lincolns Inn and new Inn in London where he experienced lectures on law as well
as St. Augustines work City of God (Kreis). He then moved on to serve as a reader at Furnivals Inn and then
"spent the next four years in the Charterhouse in devotion and prayer" (Kreis). During his time there he composed poetry and Latin epigrams which would not be printed for many
years (Kreis). Through all this education he was essentially provided with the qualifications of a lawyer, yet also considered seriously entering into a religious field and becoming a monk (BBC).
