grow up in their own homes, learning all about their culture through narrative storytelling as much as by actual behavior. This is an autobiography that is a compelling tale
of the author growing up listening to her mother, her aunts and her grandmother telling stories of Puerto Rican women. These storytelling afternoons served a twofold purpose; they were
a way to pass the time for the adults, and at the same time it was teaching the younger girls what it was like to be a Puerto Rican woman.
