stories and poems that blend fact and fiction to convey the authors experiences growing up while moving back and forth between her mothers and her birth village in Puerto Rico
and her part time family home with her mother and father in Paterson N.J. Her father, a member of the US Navy moved the family back and forth between these
two culturally distinct yet culturally related locations twice yearly. Not surprisingly, the author witnessed a blending between Puerto Rican culture and mainstream American culture. Her book reflects that
blending but it also reflects strong and indelible Puerto Rican cultural influences. It is particularly insightful in regard to how traditional Puerto Rican culture regards femininity and strict chastity
