Jesus ministry in very similar terms (Witherup 12). John, unlike the Synoptics, does not picture Jesus speaking in parables, but rather in "long discourses about himself and his relationship to
his heavenly Father"; also, Jesus in John does not perform miracles, but rather performs "signs," which underscore the "work of God that Jesus accomplishes in this world" (Witherup 12). There
are eight signs in Johns Gospels. No. 1, John 2:1-10: The first sign occurs at a wedding being held in Cana when Jesus turned water into wine. Jesus instructed servant
to fill the water-pots with water for purification, which is a reference to prophecy in the Book of Zechariah (Anderson). This sign also refers to prophetic verses in Hosea. It
showed Jesus divinity in that it established his power over the natural world. No 2, John 4:46-54: This sign concerns a nobleman who approached Jesus and begged him to
heal his sick son who was in Capernaum. The man said his son was close to death, and Jesus replied: "Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe"
(John 4:48). When the man pleased for Jesus to come save his child, the Lord replied that he should go home because his son lived. The man believed, returned
home and found that this was true. This sign not only showed that Jesus possessed power over life and death, but also the role of faith. No 3, John 5:1-9:
Refers to the man who waited by a pool renowned for its healing power, but could not avail himself of this remedy, as he had to place him into the
