and their artwork in the 13th and 14th centuries. For almost five
hundred years, from the late Middle Ages into the seventeenth
century, the Italian city of Siena was a thriving center of
trade, learning, and fine art. Its artists were known for their
creation of altar pieces, painted in triptych designs of
landscapes and events that were an essential aspect of the work.
“Annunciation” by Simone Martini is used as the detailed example.
