Bush was President, Moore made considerable money while winning public acclaim and professional accolades by satirizing the Chief Executive in such documentaries as Bowling for Columbine (2002) and Fahrenheit 9/11
(2004). Using his trademark documentary footage manipulated by a conversational narrative (spoken by Moore himself) designed to influence viewers perceptions and accept Moores opinions as indisputable fact. After
the phenomenal critical and commercial success of his previous previous documentaries, Moore decided to take on the admittedly ailing state of U.S. healthcare in his 2007 satire, Sicko. The
timing could not have been more perfect. The upcoming presidential election was already in full swing with Democratic presidential candidate hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama lambasting the Bush
Administrations mishandling of healthcare and insurance coverage. With Sicko, Moore (who once again served as director and screenwriter) stated his case
for universal healthcare in America in his quintessential satirical style. He begins with the story of Rick, who is one of the 50 million Americans who does not have
health coverage. When he accidentally sawed off the tops of two fingers, Rick had to decide which of the fingers he should have reattached since he could not afford
the cost of both. According to Rick, the hospital priced the reattachment of his middle finger at $60,000 and his ring finger at $12,000 (Moore). Ricks wife lamented,
"Its an awful feeling to just try to put a value on your body" (Moore). Moore sarcastically informed his audience that the romantic Rick opted for the ring finger
