other authors. He criticizes the idea of" electronic-based participatory democracy." In fact, there is much attention to the idea that voting can be done on the Internet and while it
has not occurred because of logistics and technical problems, the idea is something that many people like. If they can sit in their homes and vote, they would. Of
course, that is the point. People do not care so if voting is something to do--like taking a quiz for example--they will do it. If they have to go to
the polls it might take some time out of their busy day. They may not have time to vote and buy the Latte on the way to work for example.
Later, the author asks: "Who is responsible for the maintenance of a democracy? " and answers that it is every individuals responsibility (Shuler, 2001). The critique is actually
of computer professionals who are supposed to fix the mess. They are not politicians. The author argues that they are knowledgeable and may be agents in the transformation of democracy,
but democracy is not something that is inextricable with computer science (2001). After all, for many decades there was no computer but there was democracy. Now, with more technological devices
than ever, people are opting to exercise their right not to vote. The article concludes as follows: "Its difficult (for me at least) to foresee the consequences of a continued
