the results of experiences which result from the actions of a single man that is the subject of Edwidge Danticats novel The Dew Breaker. The term dew breaker is used
to indicate a torturer1, and tells the hidden story of a man who left Haiti, a country where he had undertaken brutal crimes on behalf of the government.
The work shows a man who many years later is struggling with his past. However, despite the terrible deeds, which include numerous murders and
terrible torture, there must be some forgiveness in his life; he is loved by his wife, who was the sister of his last victim, an act that could not be
seen unless there was some forgiveness. The question that a reader must consider as part of an analysis of this story is whether this unnamed man, known as the Dew
Breaker, should be forgiven? It may be hypothesised that it is easier to forgive a man when others can be observed giving forgiveness. This is a difficult issue to consider,
as while there is forgiveness in the book, it is not universal. This is seen with the way the story is told through several short stories, including those of his
victims and their families. In the novel we meet the Dew Breaker later in life, many years after the terrible actions in Haiti. He has a life that does
not indicate his past; he is a hard working man with a job as a barber and is seen as a kind landlord living in Brooklyn. At the beginning of
the book even his daughter does not know of his hidden history, although his wife does. Perhaps we may argue that seeing the love of the daughter, who is unsullied
