Clearly, this site is something that can serve the public. However, a student writing on this subject remarks that the site has become a concern in respect to issues of privacy in Hamilton County. The student goes on to say that because the county clerk has placed court records online, anyone with Internet access can look up names and determine whether or not an individual has had a legal problem. The fact that court records are online can affect the individual. If someone is applying for a job and happens to reside in Hamilton County, local businesses will be likely to look up the background of the individual. A member of an organization may also be curious about their members and while not a person in authority-such as a potential employer or law enforcement agent--they may attempt to uncover hidden information. A concerned citizen, or nosy neighbor, may simply want to see what their neighbors are up to, and can log on to the site just to snoop. It sounds like a bad idea, or an invasion of privacy, but the truth is that court records are public. Anyone can find out information by going to the courthouse. However, the fact that the information is online makes it easy for someone to look without having to reveal his or her identity. Obviously, an individual would not want a personnel manager at a place of business to look at the record if in fact there are proceedings aligned with the individual at the site.
