a devastating truth in this nation that many people suffer from drug addiction and it is also a devastating truth that the nation spends billions of dollars in fighting drugs
and in incarcerating and legally addressing drug issues. There are many who would argue that illegal drugs should be legalized because this war on drugs has proved to be futile,
not really consistently stopping or slowing down drug sales or drug use. The following paper first presents the pros and cons of legalizing now illegal drugs and then argues that
illegal drugs have to be legalized if we are to benefit our nation in any positive way. Pros and Cons As mentioned, there is a very serious drug problem
in the nation and those who would argue to keep illegal drugs illegal would argue that if we legalize them we are only asking for more problems. Many people stay
away from drugs, or do not do them very often, because they are illegal. It does serve as an incentive for many to keep away, in that they are illegal.
If drugs were made legal then children would constantly be exposed to drug use and drug users. And, it would make getting drugs and experimenting even easier. In these respects
children would be exposed and tempted too often and for many different types of drugs all it takes is one try and a serious addiction can arise. This may not
be the case for marijuana but heroin is highly addictive as is any kind of speed. If drugs were legalized there would still be crime for people seriously addicted
would still prostitute themselves, steal, and mug people in order to get money to pay for their habit. The crime would still exist because taking drugs, or being addicted to
