committed in obtaining and using those drugs. Therefore, there are arguments for and against the legalization of drugs. When looking at
most modern societies the association is that drugs are damaging, however, this is not the case for all drugs and circumstances. There are a wide range of drugs which can
be purchased legally. Over the counter drugs include aspirin and preparations containing codeine, the latter of which has been demonstrated to be addictive. The value of these has been highly
appreciated such as the treating headaches and other aches and pains through to preparation that help alleviate symptoms of coughs and colds. It is not a large leap from this
to argue for the legalization, or the liberalization of prescription drugs that alleviate other perceived maladies such as depression, boredom, or even a desire to get high. This control over
drugs and acceptance of some, condition acceptance of others in specific circumstances while there is vilification of others indicates that the societal view is not anti drugs, it is a
matter of where the line is drawn and which drugs are and are not acceptable by todays values. Looking at the historical use of drugs there is evidence for a
very different value in the past, so this becomes an increasingly subjective issue. One of the drugs that has been most controversial
