the legal drinking age in the United States varies from state to state, in most states it seems to be aged 21 and even that is too young an age
to allow drinking in the opinion of many. Yet, despite its illegal status for young people they continue to ingest alcohol and suffer many consequences. There are many who would
argue that since adolescents drink alcohol anyway it should perhaps be legal, say for anyone 18 and over. For others the legal drinking age should arguably be 21. The following
paper examines the issue and argues that minors should not be allowed to obtain alcohol. Should Alcohol Be Legal for Minors? There are individuals who are arguing that
children 16 and over should be allowed to drink alcohol. They may well cite examples in Europe where children are allowed to drink wine and other beverages and that it
does them no harm. They argue that because our restrictions are so tight the youth are rebelling and that is why they experience problems, and do damage to themselves and
others, through drinking. If drinking alcohol were simply legal for minors then much of the problems would disappear. The truth, however, is that alcohol is very damaging to youth
for a variety of reasons, especially in the United States. The United States is not Europe and the traditions that are perhaps held in place, and social structures, are not
