the meaning of Shortbus has gotten lost in all the notoriety. Its surprising that some self-appointed guardians of public morality havent yet ridden in and tried to shut it down
and burn all the copies. Critical reaction has generally been positive, but there seems to be no agreement on what the main idea of the film really is. Roger Ebert
says that the film is actually about 9/11 and the search of the survivors of the attack for some sort of healing and closure; they are looking for the "Big
O" (orgasm), also called the "Little Death," as "a way to lose themselves-their fears, their pain-in a larger psycho-sexual release. And some are searching for someone or something to make
themselves complete" (Ebert, 2006). These are wounded people, looking for a way to put themselves back together (Ebert, 2006). In short, Ebert believes its a film about finding a way
to come to terms with life when it seems to have spun out of control. Eric Snider says its a film about "people who fear loneliness," which can relate to
Eberts opinion that these are people desperately searching for a connection with one another. But its also about people who revel in sex, "in a manner that is joyfully matter-of-fact:
