not to begin until all elements needed are in place and, then, to plan on every contingency (Tynan). For example, if outside shots were planned for the first day
and it is raining, plans covering this contingency should be made beforehand so that interior shots can be substituted on the shooting schedule -- just in case (Tynan). If there
is a low budget for film, consider this and do shots that do not use a great deal of film, such as "inserts, cutaways and shots which have complicated setups"
(Tynan). Novice directors and producers often suffer from the common failing of letting "things get out of control" (Tynan). The fact that things go wrong should be anticipated, with
contingencies covered. When things go wrong--and Tynan assures novice filmmakers that they will-- the important thing is to stay focused and do not panic. "Nothing demoralizes a crew and cast
faster than a director or producer who becomes an instant tyrant because of a mistake" (Tynan). A novice filmmaker who reacts with anger or panic is only ensure that more
mistakes will occur. A novice director frequently has difficulty keeping a "clear head" in regards to the scenes as they unfold (Tynan). Therefore, rehearsal is crucial in regards to
perfecting performances, as the director can give performance full attention during rehearsal, whereas, during production, numerous other tasks are vying for attention (Tynan). In regards to directing, Tynan advises the
