never seemed to diminish as she grew older. The following paper examines Shirley Temples popularity in her time and today, while also focusing on her film Heidi as an example
of her charm. Shirley Temple "Born with the name Shirley Jane Temple, the talented singer and tap-dancer was perhaps the last child actress allowed to be a child. Her
father was a bank teller and her mother a housewife, but Shirley Temples cheerful demeanor and bright smile were just what the doctor ordered for the depression sickened United States"
(Lane). She possessed an innocence and purity that could not be beat. "Her cute lisp combined with a commanding and magical presence on the screen despite her young age" (Lane).
Her characters were not only sweet and pure and sincere, but incredibly honest as well, which proved to be incredibly funny in most of her films. She was a little
