1. Introduction The oil industry is highly associated with pollution and environmental damage as well as disregard for the long term social impact. By the
very nature of the oil industry there are the use of exhaustible resources, which, as well as depleting reserves everyday are also polluting the planet. However there is a social
need for these products due to the way in which the current commercial environment has developed, not only does transportation rely on oil products, so do plastics, between these two
influences nearly all industries and products are impacted. It is not realistic of feasible to expect oil companies to suddenly become green, the nature of their industry is
one that prevents this occurring unless there is a severe cut back on the levels of production and the levels of supply, which in turn may cause more difficulties and
hardship globally. The oil companies may be seen as placed in a dichotomy, to become green requires investment and until new technologies are developed and many of the measures may
remain hidden. However, it may also be argued that in many instances the changes which are being made by the oil companies is not out of a sense of duty
and altruism, but as a result of commercial necessity, there are increasing levels of controls placed on carbon emissions, regulations regarding the way oil is drilled and shipped, the
way it is burned and the complete supply chain of both oil and many other goods. One company that appears to be trying to increase the level of green-ness
