the Western world have generally assumed that any such practice is nothing less than primitive and ignorant thought, although there have been figures whose mystical visions have been revered in
the Western world. In many native cultures this connection with the mystical world, this connection with shamanism, has been lost due to European oppression and control. As a result many
native cultures have become lost, scattering individuals throughout society without foundation and a sense of identity. The following paper examines how the ancient ways of mysticism, of shamanism, should be
brought back to native cultures in order to make their cultures whole once more. Shamanism There can be little, if any, doubt that the European invasion of many
cultures around the world has ultimately damaged and destroyed many native cultures. Their oppressive nature, their forceful changing of native ways has led many cultures to fall apart. They have
ultimately been forced to assimilate to European culture, but yet their inherent culture is one that cannot assimilate. They have been, throughout history, forced to forget their culture, their religion,
their foundations, their history, and their language. And, while some people in native cultures have assimilated, the cultures, or tribes, as a whole have not assimilated and have led to
a great array of dysfunctional lost souls in a European society. Without their culture, their history, their mystical beliefs, they cease to be who they truly are and they become
incredibly disjointed and lost. As such it is imperative that they be given back their culture, that their culture be encouraged, taught, accepted, and embraced. Many may well argue
that the native cultures are a thing of the past and that for the native people to attempt to cling to their past is only doing them harm. The past
