The author used characters, images, and symbols to express the theme and within that, he also broached other elements. He used psychological aspects of each character to convey the theme.
For example, Shakespeare created classic characters in these works as to create a harmony through particular types of roles. Hamlet is mad but he gets along well with Ophelia,
who also seems to have psychological problems. In the Merchant of Venice, Bassanio and Portia are well suited for each other in terms of personality. There is harmony in both
relationships, even though there is despair in Hamlet. What the two relationships have in common are that they are intense and filled with emotion. However, that is just one example
of a similarity between the works. Shakespeare exemplifies this harmony by creating situations in the plot. In Hamlet, the relationship he has with Ophelia seems to convey the point best.
Shakespeare, in this tale that involves the ghost of Hamlets father, a murder plot uncovered and an evil mother, there is a great deal of torment. Underneath all of the
discord, is harmony that can only be understood in an analysis of Hamlets relationship with Ophelia. There is common ground between them. In Act III, Scene 1, Hamlet gives his
famous "To be or not to be" soliloquy, followed by a talk with Ophelia. In the same act Ophelia says "My lord, I have remembrances of yours that I have
longed long to redeliver. I pray you, now receive them " (Shakespeare Hamlet 145) He says "No, no; I never gave you aught " (145). Here, Hamlet is in effect,
denying the love relationship. There was never anything between them. He never gave Ophelia a thing. Of course, because she has the remembrances, whatever they are as the work does
