Essay / Research Paper Abstract
8 pages in length. Teens want to be left on their own to explore and learn about the mysterious world of sex. Not many teen/adult relationships are that open to allow for the intrusion of such a delicate topic; as well, an integral part of the overall learning process of life is to explore and find out things on one's own, two pertinent reasons why sex education is necessary within the public school system. That many teens are already engaging in sexual activity bodes well for a natural segue between learning about sex on the streets and being taught it in the classroom. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

and 25% of 15-year-old girls have had intercourse, whereas 85% of 19-year-old boys and 77% of 19-year-old girls have. The median age at first intercourse is 16.5 years.
* While most sexually experienced teenagers have partners close to their own age, a quarter of sexually active 16-year-old males reported having a female partner who was 14 or younger
during the last year, and 11% of 19-year-old males had a female partner 15 or younger. * Twenty-nine percent (29%) of sexually active 15- to 17-year-old girls have partners three
to five years older, and 7% have partners six or more years older (Anonymous, 2002). Due to the multiple risk factors -
both physiological and psychological - for adolescent mothers and their children, prevention of repeat pregnancies needs to assume a higher priority than it has in the past; no better place
is there for such preventive action than in the public school classroom. The socioeconomic elements involved with the multiple risk factors of teen pregnancy cannot go unnoticed, inasmuch as
