AIDS crisis was over. This idea sprang from the fact that the massive flood of deaths from AIDS that made headlines in the 1980s and early 90s slowed considerably (Ehrenstein,
2003). A mixture of new therapies -- known colloquially the "cocktail" -- made it possible for AIDS victims to continue working, prolonging lives that once had seemed
doomed (Ehrenstein, 2003). While the idea that AIDS is no longer a concern is enticing, it is also simply wrong. The truth is that AIDS and HIV infection are
still very much a threat to public health and, therefore, counseling and prevention are more imperative than ever, precisely because people have let their guard down and no longer believe
themselves to be at risk. A 2003 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that while AIDS deaths declined from 1996 through 2001, the
prevalence of HIV infection rose (Ehrenstein, 2003). Worldwide, authorities believe t hat roughly 40 million people are infected with the HIV virus, 25 million of them in Africa (Conway,
2002). The victims of this disease come from all walks of society: young and old, men and women, straight and gay, rich and poor (Conway, 2002). Over the last twenty
years, the pharmaceutical industry and other research facilities have struggled to find a cure. While progress has been made, no genuine cure has materialized. Viramune, Epivir, Crixivan, Norvir, and
Zerit are must a few of the drugs that have been developed to combat AIDS/HIV and they have all improved the lot of those infected (Ehrenstein, 2003). However, there is
