we trust Jesus? There are many messages in this text but the primary one may be that Jesus is telling us to make a stronger, more complete commitment to His
Word. Perhaps we are afraid, as Simon Peter was. We certainly feel unworthy as Simon Peter felt. We know we have a sinful nature and that we are unworthy to
stand in the shadow of Christ. But whenever Christ calls to people, He never says they have to be pure in spirit. In fact, He talks often about the need
to preach to and reach out to those who are in most need. Jesus instructed Peter to go to the deeper part of the lake and to throw his nets
out over the side of the boat: "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch" (Luke 5: 4). These were expert fishermen. They supported
their families by fishing every day. Peter had to have been very successful to have a boat of his own as well as partners. They had fished all night and
caught nothing. They had witnessed miracles performed by Jesus be even so, as experts, they knew they would not catch anything. Yet, Peter did not argue; he said only: "Master,
we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets" (Luke 5: 5). Peter and his men had already
cleaned their nets: "he [Jesus] saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets" (Luke 5: 2).
But, they followed the direction and caught so many fish, the weight began to break the nets and sink both boats (Luke 5: 6-7). How often do we hear a
